CATTEDRA

A cross-border European Interreg cooperation between several partners from Italy and Slovenia for innovative diagnosis of rare diseases in children.

Several rare diseases, which affect an estimated 5 % of the world population, do not receive adequate attention by the scientific community and the pharmaceutical industry. In fact, 70 % of these diseases occur in pediatric age and require continuous diagnostic and therapeutic efforts to improve the quality of life and minimize the socio-economic impact on families and the health system. To address new diagnostic tools and treatments in chronic pediatric inflammatory disorders, the Interreg project CATTEDRA brings together both clinical experts from IRCCS Burlo Garofolo of Trieste and the Pediatric Clinic of the University of Ljubljana, as well as technology partners COBIK, Experteam and Better. We aim to develop diagnostic methodologies that are patient-centered and to expand the knowledge database of pediatric inflammatory disease. This will open new therapeutic possibilities in the field of pediatric rare disease.

COBIK implements own expertise in innovative analytical tools to develop a portable diagnostic test for characterization of clinical samples. The diagnostic device allows rapid evaluation of key inflammatory cascades, which helps the clinicians to design patient-specific treatments.
